An 8th grade math student
An 8th grade math student was here today with
her teacher “still in park” and nothing new being taught for three weeks
now. This young lady scored an “A” in Pre-Algebra last year and the
principal told her Mom there was no room in Algebra I
for her. So she was demoted with that “A” and assigned to take 8th
grade general math! This is another class with no text books and the
little work they have covered has been based on work sheets, with have
been Pre-Algebra sheets. I took today’s tutoring time to advance her in
to graphs with inequalities and solving simultaneous pairs of equations
by substitution and elimination methods. This will greatly assist her
when they finally place her in Algebra I next year, where she absolutely
should have been this year. PARENTS: DO NOT let these teachers and
principals get away with this type of sorry use of a brilliant student.
“A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”
