No math assignment again

A 5th grade student had no math assignment again. We spent our time reviewing an old sample of the End of Grade state test. During this time, I had the student involved in the solution and if they have difficulties, I helped them adopt a reasoning method to solve similar problems. In my tutoring years, no student has ever failed the state tests, yet many have first come to me with having never passed a state test, on either the 1st or the 2nd attempts!

The two home schooled students

The two home schooled students, who attend a certified teacher’s class one day a week, were working on their final test. They have two more classes and they will continue to come for tutoring through the end of May. The girl had most of her take home test completed and only had a couple of arithmetic errors. The boy had been lazy and procrastinating, as he had only half the test worked – so he merited a lecture from me.

A 7th grade ADHD Pre-Algebra

A 7th grade ADHD Pre-Algebra student had no work since last week. We spent our time working on an old state End of Grade test and he worked all problems out correctly on both tests we completed. #ADHD #Math Rescue Your Math Student Now [Paperback] http://www.amazon.com/Parents-Teachers-Guide-Rescue-Student/dp/0988316242

5th grade private school

A 5th grade private school math student had his Terra Nova test today. He feels that he did really well. He had no home work, due to the standard testing, so we reviewed some of the Terra Nova type problems. A 6th grade student

A 6th grade student had no class work since last week. We started doing some old tests on the state’s End of Grade test. She did pretty well but needed some assistance to understand a few problems. Here is yet another school without text books and it has a huge negative effect on learning. This student is an honor roll student but she could be all A’s with proper educational practices. A 7th grade ADHD Algebra

A 7th grade ADHD Algebra I student had no work covered in class for the fourth straight week!?! Where is the principal, who is supposed to know what is happening in her classrooms? Does she NOT check over the state mandated lesson plans and do the required class room observations? We spent yet another tutoring session in reviewing old state End of Course exams, which he did very well on and he is always independent with: “I have got this.”

Harvard University meta-analysis

A recently-published Harvard University meta-analysis funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has concluded that children who live in areas with highly fluoridated water have “significantly lower” IQ scores than those who live in low fluoride areas.

An 8th grade ADHD Pre-Algebra

An 8th grade ADHD Pre-Algebra student came with four home work sections today. He will have a test on Thursday and the teacher is just “throwing” a lot of material at the students. Thus, this will lessen a positive effectiveness of the test. This young fellow would really wants to earn an “A” on his final grading period and this is his first grade on that report card. Too many teachers seem to merely go through the motions and are NOT truly be interested in the “life-long” effect their sloppy habits can have on their students.
